This is a trail opening update to my fellow Delaware Valley Trike Riders… Good News to share! The Sullivan Bridge, linking the Betzwood Trail (Schuylkill River Trail, Audubon Trail, Perkiomen Trail) to Valley Forge National Park trails will be opened on Friday, August 19, at 10:30 AM.
This long awaited river crossing will provide a link across the Schuylkill River enabling trikers, bikers, walkers, runners and others to access both river banks and many more miles of recreational travel.

I hope you have an opportunity to make use of this new river crossing – it really does open up many miles of trails well suited for recumbent trike riders!

Sullivan’s Bridge Opening
Friday, Aug 19, 10:30 am, Betzwood Boat Launch Area area off SR 422, north side of the Schuykill River
Parking at site is limited. Only access from south side of river, the main portion of VFNHP, prior to ceremony is by the old cantilever Betzwood bridge, about 40” wide.
Cyclists are recommended to park elsewhere and ride to the event.
Some options:
Ride via the Schuykill River Trail
· From the Pawlings Road Trail Head…likely to fill quickly.
BIKE Chester County group will meet at 9:30, depart at 9:45. Distance about 2 miles.
· From the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center near the Oaks Exit of SR 422 on Egypt Rd. Less than 0.5 mi to the Pawlings Rd TH via the SRT.
· From the Lower Perkiomen Valley Park parking area, SR 422 Oaks Exit, turn east, then immediate right turn, 101 New Mill Rd, Norristown, parking area on left. Mike Broennle, BIKE Chester County guide will leave at 9:20 am, ride about 1 mi on the Perkiomen Trail & SRT to join the Pawlings Rd TH group.
· From Longford Park Trail Head, Longford Rd at Port Providence Rd, Phoenixville. BIKE Chester County guides will depart at 9:15 am riding about 2 mi via SRT to the Pawlings Rd TH to join the larger group.
After the event extend your ride by exploring Valley Forge National Historical Park. One option is to ride the Joseph Plumb Martin Trail, approximately 5 mi paved multiuse loop in the park.
